1) Will the Schlage PM010 passage mortise lock fit a 1-3/8 inch door?
The PM010 mortise case is built around 1-3/4 inch doors as standard, with 1-3/8 inch as the minimum it will work in, and it can go up to 2-1/2 inches thick if you specify the door thickness and the case position in the door when you order (that option is available EE only). Backset is 2-3/4 inches only, so the door and frame prep has to be cut for that dimension.
2) Does the Schlage PM010 lock the door at all, or is it just a latch?
No locking whatsoever. The PM010 is a passage function (ANSI F01): levers on both sides, latchbolt only, no cylinder and no thumbturn. The latch retracts from either lever at all times, so the inside lever is always free for egress. Use it on corridor, hall and closet doors where you only want the door to stay shut. If you need it to lock, you want a different PM function, not this one.
3) Do I have to order a Schlage PM010 handed, left or right?
No handing to specify. The PM010 case is field reversible, so one part number covers left and right hand openings and you flip it at install. That matters if you are stocking a truck or a maintenance shop, since one lock covers every swing in the building.
4) Can I drop a Schlage PM Series mortise lock into an existing Schlage L Series pocket?
Not a straight swap. The PM Series case is 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inches, and Schlage states the PM and L Series case and cover holes differ, so the mounting holes in the door will not line up with an existing L Series install even though both are mortise cases. 5) I need a passage mortise lock for a behavioral health or psychiatric unit. Is the Schlage PM010 right?
No. The PM010 uses a standard lever, which is a ligature point. For those rooms look at the TownSteel MRX-L-01, a Grade 1 heavy duty anti-ligature lever mortise passage lockset in stainless steel, or the TownSteel MRX-A-01, the same passage function with ligature resistant arch trim. Both are listed for 1-3/4 inch doors. The Marks USA 5PDN is a Grade 1 hospital passage push/pull paddleset, ligature resistant and ADA compliant, if you want paddle operation instead of a lever.
6) What is the closest equivalent to a Schlage PM010 mortise passage lock from another manufacturer?
