Schlage PT10 ATHA 622 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Schlage PT10 work with a 2-3/8 inch backset door, or do I need to order it differently?
No separate part to order. The PT10 ships with an adjustable latch that fits both 2-3/8 inch (60 mm) and 2-3/4 inch (70 mm) backsets, so the same lockset drops onto residential-style 2-3/8 inch bores and commercial 2-3/4 inch bores. That is different from the PT40 privacy, which uses a non-adjustable latch and has to be specified 2-3/4 inch standard or 2-3/8 inch optional.
2) What bore size does the Schlage PT10 need in the door?
It depends on which rose you pick. The C and D large roses need a 2-1/8 inch (54 mm) cross bore and match the ANSI/SDI A250.14 door prep, which is the standard hollow metal prep. The A small rose fits a 1-7/8 inch (48 mm) cross bore. So if you are working with existing doors bored 1-7/8 inch and you do not want to enlarge them, order the A rose.
3) Is the Schlage PT10 ADA compliant for a barrier-free opening?
The PT10 complies with ICC A117.1 for accessible and usable buildings, and the lever operation itself needs no tight grasping or twisting. One catch on lever choice: only levers with a return to door of 1/2 inch (13 mm) or less comply, which means Longitude, Neptune, Rhodes and Tubular. If the opening has to meet accessibility, specify one of those four rather than Athens, Broadway, Latitude, Playa, Selena or Two.
4) Does a Schlage PT10 passage lock lock at all, or does it just hold the door closed?
It does not lock. The PT10 is a passage latch: levers both sides, a springlatch only, no cylinder and no key, and the latch retracts from either lever at all times. Use it on corridor doors, hall doors, closets and any opening where you only need the door held shut. If you need to secure the room you want a keyed function, and if you only need a bathroom or bedroom to be occupied-private, the PT40 privacy in the same series is the one to order.
5) Will a Schlage PT10 latch into the strike plate already in my frame?
The latchbolt is stainless steel with a 1/2 inch (13 mm) throw, which is the normal tubular latch throw, so it will engage a standard tubular strike prep. The lock ships with a 1-1/8 inch x 2-1/4 inch (29 mm x 57 mm) square corner faceplate latch as standard, with a 1 inch x 2-1/4 inch (25 mm x 57 mm) square corner option. Strikes: square corner T-strike with dust box 1-1/8 inch x 2-3/4 inch (29 mm x 70 mm) with 1-1/8 inch lip standard, round corner T-strike optional, plus square or round corner full lip and a 1-5/8 inch x 2-1/4 inch (41 mm x 57 mm) strike. Extended 1-1/2 inch (38 mm) lip options are available where the frame sits deep behind trim.
6) What is the Grade 1 equivalent to the Schlage PT10 passage lever if the spec calls for a heavier tubular lock?
The Schlage PT10 is a Grade 2 tubular passage lock with levers both sides and a latchbolt retracted by the lever from either side at all times. When the opening is written for Grade 1, the Corbin Russwin TL3710 is a Grade 1 tubular lockset in passage function, and the Corbin Russwin HP3010 is a Grade 1 tubular passage lock for 1-3/4 inch doors. All three are non-locking passage devices, so the door behaves the same way for the user; the difference is the ANSI/BHMA grade the tubular chassis is certified to.
7) For a door where users are pushing through with full hands, is there a passage tubular lock with paddle trim instead of a lever?
The Schlage PT10 is furnished with lever trim on both sides, in ten lever designs including Athens, Longitude, Neptune and Rhodes. If the opening needs a paddle rather than a lever, the Corbin Russwin HP3010 is a Grade 1 tubular passage lock supplied with HPSK paddle trim. Both are passage function, so neither locks and the latch retracts from either side.
8) What do I have to specify when ordering a Schlage PT10?
Three choices make the part number: lever style, rose design and finish. Levers are Athens, Broadway, Latitude, Longitude, Neptune, Playa, Rhodes, Selena, Tubular and Two. Roses are A, C and D, and that choice also decides your door prep, since C and D take a 2-1/8 inch bore and A takes 1-7/8 inch. Finishes are 613, 619, 622, 625, 626 and 643e. There is no handing to call out and no keying to specify, since the lock is non-keyed and field reversible.
9) Is a Grade 2 tubular lock like the Schlage PT10 durable enough for an apartment building or hotel corridor?
The PT10 is certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Series 4000 Grade 2 and carries F75 as its ANSI function designation, and it also earns Grade AAA under ANSI/BHMA A156.39 in security, durability and finish. The series is built for commercial real estate, retail, multifamily and hospitality use. For a high-abuse opening such as a main entry or a heavily used institutional corridor, a Grade 1 tubular passage set is the step up, and the Corbin Russwin TL3710 is a Grade 1 tubular passage lockset in that class.
10) What is a Grade 1 alternative to the Schlage PT10 passage lever?
Two from Corbin Russwin. The TL3710 is a Grade 1 tubular passage lockset in the TL3700 Series, the closest lever-for-lever equivalent. The HP3010 in the HP3000 Series is also Grade 1 passage but comes with HPSK paddle trim rather than a lever and is listed for 1-3/4 inch doors, so it is the one to look at where a paddle suits the traffic better than a lever, not where you are trying to match existing lever hardware.
11) Can I match Schlage PT10 levers to the mortise locks already on my building's doors?
If those mortise locks are Schlage PM Series, yes. The PT Series and PM Series share lever and rose styles, so you can run tubular passage sets on the light-duty openings and PM mortise locks on the heavy ones and have them read as one hardware package. The PT Series is also made to suite with other Allegion products for a consistent look across a complex.
12) Is the Corbin Russwin TL3710 a drop-in replacement for a Schlage PT10?
They serve the same opening but they are different product lines. Both are tubular passage locksets: the PT10 is Schlage PT Series, the TL3710 is Corbin Russwin TL3700 Series. Swapping between them means the trim, rose and lever designs change families, so a building standardized on Schlage PT roses and levers will not visually match a TL3710 on the adjacent door. The PT10 carries A, C and D rose designs and six finishes - 613, 619, 622, 625, 626 and 643E.
13) If I am replacing a Corbin Russwin HP3010 on a 1-3/4 inch door, will a Schlage PT10 fit the same door?
Both are built for a 1-3/4 inch door: the Corbin Russwin HP3010 lists a 1-3/4 inch door thickness, and the Schlage PT10 lists a 1-3/4 inch door thickness range with a 2-3/4 inch backset and field-reversible handing. The trim differs - the HP3010 comes with HPSK paddle trim and the PT10 with levers both sides - so confirm which trim the opening is meant to carry before ordering.
14) What finishes does the Schlage PT10 come in, and which one matches satin chrome hardware?
Six finishes: 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome and 643e aged bronze. For an existing satin chrome package, 626 is the match, and it is the most common commercial finish. Levers are pressure cast zinc and roses are stamped brass, both plated to the finish you specify, so lever and rose arrive matched.
15) Is the Schlage PT10 an electronic or access control lock?
No, it is purely mechanical. The PT10 is a non-electronic, non-keyed tubular passage set with a zinc and steel chassis, no cylinder, no credential reader and no wiring. If you need card or code access on the opening, this is not the lock to start from.
