    1) Will the Schlage L9040 privacy mortise lock fit a 1-3/8 inch door?
    No. The L9040 is built for 1-3/4 inch doors only. That is the door thickness the lock ships prepped for, so a 1-3/8 inch interior door needs a different lock. If you're working a mix of thicknesses in one building, sort the 1-3/4 inch openings to the L9040 and handle the thinner leaves separately.

    Not necessarily. The L9040 is a full mortise lockset, so it replaces the lock body, trim and latch as one job.
