1) Will the Schlage L9050 fit a 1-3/4 inch door?
Yes, and that is the only thickness the L9050 lock is set up for as standard: the door thickness spec is 1-3/4 inches, which is the usual commercial door. The mortise pocket needs to take a case measuring 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inches, and the backset is 2-3/4 inches. If your doors run thicker, the trim you pick matters: the L cast/forged escutcheon covers 1-3/8 to 2-1/2 inch doors and the N wrought escutcheon covers 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inch.
2) What does the Entrance/Office function on the Schlage L9050 actually do day to day?
The L9050 is the office lock people mean when they say they want to lock the door and still get out. Turn the inside thumbturn or use the key outside and the outside lever goes rigid; the latchbolt then only pulls back with the key outside or the lever inside. Leave it unlocked and either lever retracts the latch. The inside lever is always free, so egress is never keyed. An auxiliary latch deadlocks the latchbolt once the door closes, which is what stops a card or shim from loiding it.
