1) Will the Schlage L9060 fit my 1-3/4 inch commercial apartment door?
The L9060 mortise lock is built for 1-3/4 inch doors with a 2-3/4 inch backset, which is the standard commercial mortise prep. The lock case measures 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inches, so the door needs a mortise pocket cut for that case. If your doors are thicker than 1-3/4 inches, the L Series does offer door thickness options, but the standard build here is single thickness.
2) What does the L9060 apartment entrance function actually do when someone locks it?
Apartment entrance function, F09: the latchbolt is retracted by the lever from either side unless the outside is locked by key from the inside. Once locked that way, the outside key or the inside lever retracts it. The inside lever is always free for immediate egress, so a resident can always get out. An auxiliary latch deadlocks the latchbolt when the door is closed against credit-carding. There is no deadbolt in this function, so if you need a separate throw bolt on the unit door, this is the wrong lock.
3) Is the Schlage L9060 double cylinder, and do I have to key it from both sides?
Keyed function is double cylinder on the L9060, meaning it takes a key on the outside and a key cylinder on the inside to set the lock. It ships standard with a conventional 6-pin cylinder in the C keyway. If your frame is already prepped for a standard ANSI square corner strike of that size the swap is straightforward.
