Schlage L9092EUB-03A-626-RX – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Schlage L9092EU mortise lock fail secure or fail safe when power drops?
The L9092EU is the electrically unlocking (EU) version, so it fails secure. Remove power and the outside lever stays locked; apply 12 or 24VDC and the outside lever is released. The L Series electrified locks auto detect 12V/24VDC and the EL/EU behavior is customer selectable, so the same lock body can be set the other way if the opening needs fail safe. Current draw is 400mA. The inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress.
2) What does the RX option on this Schlage mortise lock actually do for my access control system?
RX is a request-to-exit switch built into the lock case. It signals the access control panel the moment someone turns the inside lever, so the system can shunt the door alarm for a legitimate exit instead of reading it as a forced door. Schlage's electrified L Series also offers DPS, latchbolt monitor and deadbolt monitor as monitoring options.
3) Will a Schlage L9092EU fit a 1-3/8 inch door?
No. The L9092EU is built for 1-3/4 inch doors, which is the standard commercial thickness. The L Series options portfolio includes other door thicknesses, but that has to be specified on the order rather than adjusted in the field. The mortise pocket needs to accept a case measuring 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inches.
4) Will the L9092EU latch into the strike that is already in my frame?
It ships with the 10-072 box strike, 1-1/4 by 4-7/8 inches with square corners and a 1-3/16 inch lip. The latch is a 3/4 inch stainless steel latchbolt with an anti-friction tongue. If your existing frame prep is a 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 square corner ANSI mortise strike, the supplied strike drops straight in; radius corner or T-strike preps will need the matching strike option instead.
5) Can I use an electrified mortise lock like this on a fire rated door?
Yes. The L9000 mortise locks are UL listed for 3-hour fire doors (the L9076 and L9077 are the exceptions), and UL/cUL listed for A label single doors up to 4 by 10 feet and pairs up to 8 by 10 feet. The F letter and UL symbol stamped on the latch front is how you verify it on the job. Electrified functions are UL19X listed for single-point locking.
6) Does this Schlage mortise lock meet Grade 1 and ADA for a school or hospital spec?
The L9000 Series is tested and certified under ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1 for both security and operational, meets ADA requirements, and also carries ANSI/ASTM F476-76 Grade 40. It meets the Buy American Act, which matters on federal and many state jobs, and it holds Miami-Dade NOAs and Florida Building Commission listings. Levers with a return to door of 1/2 inch or less comply with the California Referenced Standards Code.
7) Do I have to order this Schlage electrified mortise lock handed?
No. The lock is field reversible, so one part number covers left and right hand openings and you set the hand during install. That matters if you are stocking spares for a building with doors swinging both ways.
8) What else could I use instead of a Schlage L9092EU for an electrified mortise opening?
Two directions, depending on what you need. If you want electric unlock with an optional request-to-exit like this one, the Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH is a 24V motorized mortise lock with electric unlock and optional REX in a storeroom function. If you want a complete Grade 1 lockset rather than a chassis, the SDC 7600 Series is a motorized latch retraction mortise lockset with 24VDC control for 1-3/4 inch doors. Note the difference: latch retraction pulls the latchbolt back electrically, while the L9092EU only releases the outside lever and leaves the latch in the strike.
9) How much current does this Schlage electrified mortise lock draw, and do I need a 12V or 24V supply?
400mA, and the lock auto detects either 12 or 24VDC, so you can wire it to whichever supply the opening already has without ordering a different part. That auto detect is useful when you are adding a single opening to an existing power supply of unknown voltage.
10) For a behavioral health or institutional opening, is the L9092EU the right electrified mortise lock?
For a straight institutional function opening, the Command Access ML04EU electrified mortise lock chassis is built specifically for asylum, institution and utility function and is heavy duty. The Schlage L9092EU is an electrically unlocking mortise lock with request-to-exit, and the L Series does offer Gold Standard ligature resistant trim for behavioral health applications, so the choice turns on whether you need institutional function operation or electric unlocking with RX signaling on a standard trim set.
11) What is the difference between the Schlage L9092EU and a solenoid controlled mortise lock like the SDC 7800?
The SDC Selectric 7800 PRO is a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch, fitted to 1-3/4 inch doors. The Schlage L9092EU uses motor-driven electrified operation, auto-detects 12/24VDC, draws 400mA, and is field reversible for hand. Solenoid locks hold current continuously while energized; the motor-driven L Series design is what the L9000 electrified functions use to reduce standing draw. Both mount in a 1-3/4 inch door.
12) Does the DynaLock EML-1 work as a substitute for the Schlage L9092EU?
They are not the same function. The DynaLock EML-1 is an electrified mortise lock in storeroom function, where the outside lever stays locked and the key retracts the latch. The Schlage L9092EU is an electrically unlocking lock with request-to-exit signaling built in, so the access control system can release the outside lever and receive an exit signal back. If your panel needs the RX contact, the EML-1 is not a direct swap.
13) Which electrified mortise locks can I specify alongside the L9092EU if the spec calls for ANSI Grade 1?
The Schlage L9092EU is part of the L9000 Series, which is tested and certified under ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1 for both security and operational. Among electrified mortise alternates, the SDC 7600 Series is listed as Grade 1 and fits a 1-3/4 inch door, the same door thickness the L9092EU is built for. That gives you two Grade 1 options for the same opening prep, differing in whether the electrification unlocks the lever or retracts the latch.
14) Can I get a free-wheeling lever on this lock so it does not break if someone kicks it?
Vandlgard free-wheeling outside trim is available on most L Series functions, including electrified ones. When locked, the outside lever rotates freely instead of transmitting force into the lock case. If you prefer a different brand's approach, the SDC Selectric 7800 PRO is a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch for 1-3/4 inch doors.
15) Can I add a visual indicator so staff can see the door is locked from down the corridor?
Yes, the L Series offers an exclusive 180 degree visibility indicator, readable from either side of the corridor rather than only straight on. It is an option you specify with the lock, not a field add-on, and Schlage publishes a dedicated L Series 180 Indicator data sheet covering which functions accept it.
