1) I'm replacing an old mortise lock in a 1-3/4 inch door. Will the Schlage LV9453 drop into the existing pocket?
Check three numbers against what is coming out: the case is 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inches, the backset is 2-3/4 inches, and the armor front is 1-1/4 x 8 inches. 2) What does the Vandlgard feature on the Schlage LV9453 actually do?
Vandlgard is free-wheeling outside trim. When the outside lever is locked, it spins freely instead of resisting force, so someone hanging on the handle or kicking it does not transfer torque into the lock case. It is the option to pick for school corridors, dorms, public restroom corridors, and any opening where abuse is the failure mode you keep replacing locks over. The lock itself is the L9000 entrance/office deadbolt function underneath.
3) How does the LV9453 lock and unlock, and can someone get out if it's locked?
