1) Will the Trine 1002-2 electric strike work with my existing lockset's latchbolt?
The 1002-2 accepts locksets with up to a 5/8 inch latchbolt throw, based on a 1/8 inch door gap. The latch cavity is 9/16 inch deep by 9/16 inch wide by 1-11/16 inch high, and the mortise backset is 1-1/2 inches. If your lock throws more than 5/8 inch, or your gap is wider than 1/8 inch so the bolt sits deeper in the keeper, this is the wrong strike for the opening.
2) Does the Trine 1002-2 strike work with a deadlatch (dead locking lever) lockset?
Yes. The 1002-2 has an auxiliary lever ramp, 2-7/8 inches in height, specifically for locksets that carry a dead locking lever. The ramp holds the auxiliary plunger up on the strike face so the deadlatch stays depressed and the lock does not go unsecured when the door closes. That ramp is the reason this model gets specified over a plain flat-face strike on a cylindrical lever lock.
3) What happens at the Trine 1002-2 strike when the building loses power?
It stays locked. The 1002-2 is fail-secure, so the keeper holds on power loss and the door remains secured from the outside. Egress from the inside is still by the lockset lever, which is why fail-secure is the normal choice on an exterior or tenant entry. If your application needs the door to release on a power drop, this model won't do it. Hager's 2925, 2928 and 2930 strikes are field reversible between fail safe and fail secure.
4) Do I need to order a left hand or right hand Trine 1002-2 strike?
Neither. The 1000 Series is non handed, so one strike covers either swing. 7) What is a fire-rated alternative to the Trine 1002-2 electric strike?
The Trine 1002-2 is not fire rated, so on a labeled opening you need a strike carried as fire rated. The Hager 2930 is a fire rated Grade 1 electric strike for cylindrical and mortise locks with 12/24VDC dual voltage, and the Von Duprin 6400 32D is a Grade 1 modular electric strike for mortise or cylindrical locks in fail-secure with a 3-hour UL 10C fire rating. 8) The Trine 1002-2 does not fit an aluminum storefront jamb. What electric strike does?
The 1002-2 has a 7-15/16 inch by 1-7/16 inch faceplate and a 1-1/2 inch mortise backset intended for wood and metal jambs, which is more cavity than a narrow aluminum stile jamb gives you.
