Engineered with an integral transformer and designed for mounting to walls or ceilings, low and line voltage Display Spot Lights deploy optimal accent lighting from surface mounted canopies that can be custom designed with any of WAC low voltage Track Heads.

WAC Lighting ME-808LED-BK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the WAC 808 monopoint spot light need a track, or does it mount straight to a junction box?
No track needed. The 808 Monopoint is a single spot light with its own integral 120V electronic transformer concealed in the surface mounted canopy, so it hardwires at the outlet box and mounts directly to a ceiling or wall. The canopy backplate is 4.5 inches, and it can be mounted in any orientation.
2) Will the 808 monopoint dim smoothly, and what kind of dimmer do I need?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. On the 808 the dimming range is 100 to 10 percent and runs smooth and continuous with an ELV control; the spec data also lists TRIAC as an accepted dimming type. A standard incandescent dimmer is not the right control for this transformer. Also watch the load: the canopy transformer has a 1 watt minimum, which is what lets a single 8W LED MR16 dim without dropping out.
3) Can I use the WAC 808 monopoint on a covered porch or in a bathroom?
It is damp location rated and UL and cUL Listed for damp locations, so a covered exterior soffit, a porch ceiling, or a bath outside the shower enclosure is within rating. It is not rated for wet locations, so do not use it where it takes direct rain or hose spray.
4) Is the LED lamp included with the WAC ME-808LED monopoint?
The ME-808LED ships as the LED version, which includes a 12V LED MR16 lamp (450 delivered lumens, 3000K, 85 CRI, 35 degree beam). Note the spec attributes list Bulbs Included as No, so if the lamp matters to your order, treat the lamp as a separate line item and confirm it. The socket is a GU5.3 bi-pin, so any 12V MR16 LED or halogen up to 50W will seat in it.
5) Will the 808 monopoint pass a California Title 24 inspection?
Yes, the 808 Monopoint is listed as Title 24 compliant and CEC listed. It is not Energy Star rated, so if your project specifically requires an Energy Star luminaire, this is not the fixture for it.
6) How far does the WAC 808 monopoint project off the ceiling?
The fixture measures 4.5 inches across the canopy with a maximum height of 6.25 inches, so figure about 6-1/4 inches of projection from the mounting surface at full extension. WAC also builds this spot with 6, 12, 18, 24, 36, and 48 inch extensions if you need the head dropped further off a high ceiling.
7) Can I change the beam spread on the 808 spot light after it is installed?
Yes. The 808 comes with a tempered clear glass lens, and WAC offers alternate lenses, including spread lenses and UV filtering lenses, that drop in place of the clear one. Out of the box the beam is 35 degrees, which is an accent spread; a spread lens is the fix if you need to wash artwork or a display case more evenly.
8) I need accent lights over a few display cases but running track is not an option. Is a monopoint the right choice?
That is exactly what a monopoint is for. Instead of a track run with a feed and a head, the 808 puts the transformer inside its own canopy and mounts over a single outlet box, so each light is independent. Track makes more sense when you want several heads on one circuit and the freedom to reposition them later; monopoints make sense when you have fixed targets and existing boxes. The 808 head itself can also be swapped for any of WAC's low voltage track heads on the same canopy.
9) Is the WAC 808 monopoint ADA compliant for a corridor wall?
No. The 808 is listed as non-ADA compliant, and with a maximum height of 6.25 inches it projects too far to be used as a wall mounted fixture in an ADA protected path. For wall mounting in a corridor or stairwell, specify a fixture with 4 inch or less projection.
10) What finishes does the WAC ME-808LED monopoint come in for matching existing fixtures?
Two finishes: black (ME-808LED-BK) and white (ME-808LED-WT). Both are the same die cast aluminum body, so the only difference is the paint. For a ceiling grid or a white drywall soffit the white canopy disappears; black is the usual pick for gallery and retail display runs.
11) How long does the lamp in the 808 monopoint last before maintenance crews have to touch it?
Rated life on the LED is 50,000 hours. At 12 hours a day of retail display use that is roughly 11 years. The lamp is a standard GU5.3 bi-pin MR16, so relamping is a pull and plug job, not a fixture replacement.
