WAC Lighting ME-826LED-BK – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the WAC 826 monopoint spot light need a separate transformer or driver?
No separate remote transformer is needed. The ME-826LED monopoint has an electronic transformer built into the 4.5 inch canopy, so you run 120V line voltage straight to the junction box and the fixture steps it down for the 12V MR16 lamp. It is a hardwired fixture, not plug-in.
2) Can this WAC monopoint spot be mounted on a wall, or is it ceiling only?
Either. The 826 monopoint canopy is rated for ceiling or wall mounting in any orientation, so you can aim it up a wall of artwork or down from a soffit without a special mounting kit.
3) Will the 826 monopoint work on a covered exterior porch or a bathroom?
Yes, within limits. It is UL and cUL Listed for damp locations, which covers interior rooms and covered exterior areas like porches, soffits and breezeways. It is not a wet-location fixture, so do not use it anywhere exposed to direct rain or hose-down.
4) What dimmer do I need for a WAC 826 LED monopoint, and how low will it go?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer; the fixture also accepts TRIAC control. On an ELV dimmer the output runs smooth and continuous from 100 percent down to 10 percent. One thing to watch on a multi-fixture circuit: the canopy transformer has a 1 watt minimum load, which is what lets a single low-wattage LED MR16 dim without dropping out.
5) What size lamp does the WAC 826 spot light take and can I swap the bulb later?
It takes a single 12V MR16 with a GU5.3 bi-pin base, LED or halogen, up to 50W maximum. The ceramic socket means you can go back to halogen later or change beam spread by changing lamps, so the fixture is not locked to one integrated LED module.
6) How much space does the WAC 826 monopoint take up on the ceiling?
The canopy is 4.5 inches across, and the fixture measures 4.5 inches in height and width with a 5.6 inch length, 5.56 inches at maximum height. Useful if you are fitting several in a row over casework or checking clearance under a low soffit.
7) Will one 8W LED 826 monopoint put out enough light to accent a painting?
It delivers 450 lumens at 3000K with an 85 CRI lamp and a 35 degree beam, which is a standard accent beam for artwork or a display case. The 85 CRI and warm 3000K color are what matter for color accuracy on finishes and artwork. If you need wider coverage, WAC offers spread lenses that replace the supplied clear tempered glass lens.
8) Does the WAC 826 monopoint meet California Title 24?
Yes. The 826 LED monopoint is listed as Title 24 compliant and CEC listed, which is what a California job or a Title 24 lighting schedule will ask for. It is not Energy Star rated, and it is not an ADA compliant fixture, so keep it out of protruding-object zones in corridors.
9) What finishes does the WAC ME-826LED monopoint come in, and how do I order the matching one?
Three finishes: Black (ME-826LED-BK), Brushed Nickel (ME-826LED-BN) and White (ME-826LED-WT). White is the usual choice for blending into a painted ceiling, black for retail and gallery work where you want the head to disappear against dark track and soffits.
10) Can I drop the WAC 826 monopoint down from a high ceiling?
Yes. The 826 fixture family is offered with 6, 12, 18, 24, 36 and 48 inch extensions, so on a tall or vaulted ceiling you can get the head down to where the beam actually does something instead of flush at the canopy. Pick the extension length by how far you need the aiming point below the structure.
11) Monopoint or track head for a single accent light?
A monopoint like the 826 is the right call when you need one aimed spot over a specific object and you have a junction box at that point, since the canopy conceals its own transformer and feeds directly from 120V. Track makes more sense when you want several heads you can reposition later, or when the exact aiming location is still unsettled. The 826 canopy can also be built up with WAC low voltage track heads if you want a particular head style on a single point.
12) Is the WAC 826 monopoint durable enough for a retail or hotel install?
The body is die cast aluminum with a ceramic bi-pin socket and 18 gauge Teflon insulated wiring in fiberglass sleeves, and the lens is tempered clear glass. Lamp rated life is 50,000 hours. That construction is aimed at commercial display use rather than a stamped residential housing.
