1) Does the WAC HR-D412LED-S 4 inch square trim include the lamp, or do I need to order an MR16 separately?
The HR-D412LED-S ships with an LED MR16 lamp included, so the trim arrives ready to run. It also accommodates most other LED MR16 lamps if you want to swap to a different beam spread or color temperature later.
2) What voltage does this WAC 4 inch recessed trim run on, and can I wire it straight to line voltage?
No, it cannot go on line voltage. The HR-D412LED-S trim is a 12 VAC low voltage unit, so it has to be fed from a housing with a magnetic or electronic 12V transformer. Feeding 120V directly to it will destroy the lamp.
3) How far can the lamp be aimed in this WAC adjustable square trim?
The center lamp holder tilts the lamp up to 35 degrees off vertical, which is enough to wash artwork, a stone feature wall, or millwork from a ceiling run set back from the wall. If you need steeper aiming than 35 degrees, look at a gimbal or eyeball trim instead.
4) What finishes does the WAC HR-D412LED-S square trim come in?
Two combinations, both with a specular clear reflector: Specular Clear/Brushed Nickel (HR-D412LED-S-SC/BN) and Specular Clear/White (HR-D412LED-S-SC/WT). The specular clear interior keeps aperture glare low while the brushed nickel or white flange is what shows at the ceiling, so pick the flange to match the other ceiling hardware in the space.
5) How does this trim hold into the recessed housing, and do I need extra mounting hardware?
Steel spring clips on the trim grip the housing, so it pushes up into place and holds without screws or added brackets. Nothing further is needed for mechanical attachment beyond a compatible 4 inch low voltage housing.
6) I have square recessed apertures throughout a building. Will this WAC trim match?
It is a 4 inch square trim, so it reads as a square aperture at the ceiling rather than a round one. To match a fleet of openings you need existing 4 inch low voltage housings of the same family; the square face will not cover a larger cutout, and the 12 VAC input means it will not drop into a 120V line voltage housing.
7) Can I change the lens on the WAC HR-D412LED-S to soften or color the beam?
Yes. It is supplied with a clear glass lens, and that lens can be swapped for one lens accessory, so you can move to a diffusing or colored lens for the same aperture. Only one lens goes in at a time.
