WAC Lighting WAC-PD-42912 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How low can the WAC Napa PD-42912 pendant hang over a kitchen island?
Mounted height runs from 20 inches at the shortest to 130 inches fully extended, measured from the ceiling. Three 12 inch downrods and one 6 inch downrod ship with it, and you combine or omit rods to land where you want. Supply wire is 140 inches, so the wiring is not the limiting factor at full drop.
2) Will this WAC Napa LED pendant mount on a sloped or cathedral ceiling?
Yes. The Napa pendant is slope ceiling adaptable, with a hang straight swivel that articulates up to 90 degrees, so the fixture stays plumb on a pitched ceiling. It is a ceiling mount, rod hung fixture, not cable or cord suspended.
3) Can the PD-42912 pendant be used on a covered porch or in a bathroom?
It carries a damp location rating and an IP44 ingress rating, so a covered exterior area such as a porch soffit or a breezeway is acceptable, as is a bathroom outside the shower. It is not rated for wet locations, so no direct rain or sprinkler exposure.
4) What dimmer works with the WAC Napa LED pendant?
It needs an ELV (electronic low voltage) dimmer. Dimming range is 100 percent down to 10 percent. A standard incandescent/forward phase dimmer is not the right control here, and ELV is also what the driverless ACLED design calls for.
5) Will the canopy on this pendant cover a standard 4 inch octagon ceiling box?
The backplate measures 6.5 by 6.5 inches, which covers a standard 4 inch round or octagon outlet box with room to spare. It is a hardwired fixture at 120V, 50/60Hz, so you need a box and branch circuit at the location, not a plug.
6) Is the LED in the Napa pendant replaceable, and how long does it last?
The light source is an integrated LED, factory installed, so there is no socket and no lamp to change. Rated life is 50,000 hours. For a property manager that means no relamping cycle, but a fixture swap at end of life.
7) Does the WAC Napa pendant meet California Title 24 for a residential kitchen?
Yes, it is listed as both Title 24 compliant and Title 20 compliant, and it is ETL and cETL certified for the US and Canada. Note that it is not Energy Star rated and not ADA compliant, the latter being irrelevant for a ceiling pendant but worth knowing on a spec submittal.
8) How big is the shade on the 8.88 inch Napa pendant, and what is it made of?
The shade is 8.88 inches across and the fixture body stands 12.25 inches tall, before downrods. The diffuser is a co-extruded white acrylic, not glass, over steel and aluminum hardware, which is why it holds up in a commercial corridor or multi-family unit better than a glass globe.
9) What color light does the Napa pendant put out, and will it match my other warm white fixtures?
Output is 3000K warm white with a CRI of 90, a flood distribution rather than a spot. 3000K reads as a soft warm white, so it will sit alongside other 3000K downlights and pendants; it will look noticeably cooler next to 2700K lamps.
10) What finish does the WAC Napa PD-42912 pendant come in?
Black is the finish offered, paired with the 3000K color temperature. The look is mid-century, aluminum base material with the white acrylic diffuser.
