WAC Lighting WAC-T24-BS2 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What power supply do I need for WAC Basics T24-BS2 tape light?
The T24-BS2 runs on 24VDC, so it needs a driver. Two paths: the universal input 120/220/277V power supply PS-24DC-U, which also requires the T24-BS-EX2 lead wire, or the 120VAC EN-BT60 supply, which comes with the lead wire included. Driver output is 24V DC and the driver is available in a 288W max load.
2) How long a run of T24-BS2 tape can I make off one power supply?
Run length depends on how far the tape starts from the supply. With up to 40ft between the power supply and the start of the tape, the T24-BS2 is limited to a 20ft run. Keep that lead down to 6ft and you can run the full 40ft. Spools come in 15ft, 40ft and 100ft, so a 100ft reel is stock for multiple runs, not one continuous run.
3) Can WAC Basics tape light be cut to length on site?
Yes. Basics tape can be cut in the field every 4 inches and reconnected with the T24-BS-MM-CL I-connectors. Connector count ships with the reel: 2 with the 15ft spool, 8 with the 40ft spool, and 20 with the 100ft spool. If your layout has more splices than that, order extra connectors.
4) What is the difference between T24-BS1 and T24-BS2 Basics tape light?
Output. The BS2 is the 2.4W per foot version delivering up to 250 lumens per foot; the BS1 is the 1.2W per foot version at up to 150 lumens per foot. Run limits differ too: at a 40ft lead from the supply, BS1 allows 30ft of tape and BS2 only 20ft. Both reach 40ft of run when the lead is 6ft. Use BS2 where you want brighter task or accent light, BS1 for softer cove fill and longer runs.
5) Will WAC Basics T24-BS2 tape light dim on my existing dimmer?
It dims with an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer, a TRIAC dimmer, or 0-10V. 0-10V control is only available when you use the PS-24DC-U power supply. In every case the dimmer goes on the primary side of the transformer, not between the driver and the tape.
6) Can this tape light be used in a bathroom, closet, or under a kitchen cabinet?
Basics tape is UL and cUL Listed for damp locations and IP20 rated, and it is specifically suitable for installation in a clothes closet. IP20 means no protection against water spray, so it is fine for a cove, a vanity soffit, or under-cabinet task work in a damp room, but not for a wet location such as inside a shower or outdoors. It is an indoor product.
7) Does WAC Basics tape light meet California Title 24 and ADA requirements?
Yes on both. Basics is CEC Title 24 compliant and ADA compliant, and it is UL and cUL Listed. For a California job or a public-facility spec, that combination plus the 90 CRI rendering is usually what the drawing calls for.
8) Which color temperature of WAC Basics tape should I order to match the rest of my building?
Five temperatures are offered on every reel length: 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K, all in white finish tape. 2700K reads like incandescent for residential and hospitality cove work, 3000K to 3500K is the common commercial millwork and retail range, and 4000K to 5000K suits back-of-house, garages and task areas. At 90 CRI the color rendering holds up across all five, so mixing temperatures between spaces still looks consistent in material color.
9) How is WAC Basics tape light attached, and can it be mounted upside down?
It sticks with a 3M adhesive bond, no clips or fasteners required, and can be mounted on a ceiling or a wall in any orientation. The tape is low profile at 0.38 inch and 0.19 inch in the stated dimensions, which is what lets it tuck into a cove lip or under a cabinet without showing.
10) How long do the LEDs in WAC Basics tape light last, and can the diodes be replaced?
Rated life is 50,000 hours. The LEDs are integrated and included, so there is nothing to relamp; at end of life the tape section is replaced. The diodes carry a UV stabilized clear coating, which is what keeps the run from yellowing unevenly over that life in a cove exposed to daylight.
