1) Will the WAC HHT-160LED track head fit my existing H track?
The HHT-160LED is built for WAC's H-system track, listed as an H Track Fixture, and the track adapter is molded into the polycarbonate transformer case. It will not drop onto J or L series track without the correct adapter, so confirm the extrusion in your ceiling is H-type before ordering.
2) Is this a low voltage head that needs a separate transformer on the track?
No separate transformer is needed. The HHT-160LED runs off standard 120V line-voltage track and the transformer is concealed inside the fixture body, stepping it down for the MR16 lamp. Input is 120 VAC, 50/60Hz.
3) Does the WAC HHT-160LED come with a lamp or do I order the MR16 separately?
The lamp is included. Each head ships with an 8W MR16 LED lamp, one per fixture, seated in a bi-pin ceramic socket. The socket is GY5.3, so a future replacement is a standard GY5.3 bi-pin MR16.
4) What dimmer do I need for these WAC track heads?
Use an ELV (electronic low voltage) dimmer. The head dims on ELV control from 100 percent down to 15 percent. A standard incandescent/forward-phase wall dimmer is not the right control for it, and pairing one with the integral electronic transformer is where flicker and buzz come from.
5) Can I use the WAC Range low voltage track head in a covered exterior walkway or bathroom?
No. It is rated for dry locations and indoor use only, so covered exteriors, open soffits, and shower or steam areas are out. Keep it to conditioned interior spaces such as retail floors, lobbies, offices, and galleries.
6) Does the HHT-160LED meet California Title 24 for a commercial lighting permit?
It is listed as Title 24 compliant and CEC listed, which is what a California inspector looks for on the fixture schedule. It is also UL and cUL listed for US and Canadian work, and ADA compliant. It does not carry Energy Star.
7) Will the 3000K color temperature match the other heads in my store or lobby?
The HHT-160LED is 3000K warm white with a CRI of 90, so it reads as a warm residential/hospitality white with accurate color rendering on fabrics, wood, and skin tones. It will not match 2700K or 3500K/4000K heads on the same run; mixed color temperatures on one track are obvious to the eye.
8) How far can I aim this track head once it is mounted?
The Range head rides on a swivel yoke giving 350 degrees of horizontal rotation and 90 degrees of vertical tilt, so you can re-aim it straight down or out toward a wall without moving it on the track. Allow for the body: it measures 4.5 x 4.5 inches with a 2.13 inch diameter head and a 4.06 inch maximum height, which matters where a shelf or soffit is close to the track.
9) What finishes does the WAC Range H-series track head come in?
Two: black and white. White is ordered as HHT-160LED-WT. Match the head finish to your track extrusion, since a white head on black track reads as a mismatch on an exposed ceiling.
10) Will this track head overheat in an enclosed soffit or under a shelf?
The housing is die-cast aluminum with a mesh back vent for heat dissipation, so it needs free air behind it. Burying the head in a tight soffit or boxing it in restricts that vent. A clear lens is included over the MR16, and the body is aluminum rather than plastic, which is what carries the heat away.
