1) Will the Schlage L9050 mortise lock fit a 1-3/4 inch door with a 2-3/4 inch backset prep?
That is exactly the prep it is built for. The L9050 is a 2-3/4 inch backset mortise lock for 1-3/4 inch doors. The lock case measures 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inches and the armor front is 1-1/4 x 8 inches, so it drops into a standard ANSI mortise pocket. If your doors are thicker or thinner, the rose/escutcheon choice matters: the L cast/forged escutcheon covers 1-3/8 to 2-1/2 inch doors and the N wrought escutcheon covers 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inch doors.
2) What does the Entrance/Office function on the Schlage L9050 actually do day to day?
Either lever retracts the latch normally. Turn the inside thumbturn or use the key outside and the outside lever locks; from then on the door opens with a key outside or the inside lever. The outside lever stays locked until the thumbturn or key releases it. 8) What Grade 1 indicator lock can I use if the door is prepped for a cylindrical lock instead of a mortise pocket?
The Schlage L9050 with 07 lever is a mortise lock with a 4-7/16 inch x 6-1/16 inch x 1 inch case, so it needs a mortise pocket in the door edge. For a door already bored for a cylindrical lock, the Corbin Russwin CLX3320 NVSL is a Grade 1 lever lock with a visual status indicator, fire rated, covering 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors. The Falcon and Arrow units are deadbolts only and are not keyed lever sets, so they do not control a latch or provide lever operation.
