1) Will the Schlage L9050 indicator mortise lock fit a 1-3/4 inch door with a 2-3/4 inch backset mortise pocket?
Yes. The L9050 is built for 1-3/4 inch doors with a 2-3/4 inch backset. The lock case measures 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inches, the armor front is 1-1/4 x 8 inches, and it ships with the 10-072 strike, 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inches square corner with a 1-3/16 inch lip and box. If your existing pocket is a standard Schlage L Series prep, it drops in.
2) What do the two indicators on the Schlage L9050 actually show, inside versus outside?
Two separate readouts. Inside the room the indicator reads LOCKED or UNLOCKED, so the occupant can see the state of the outside lever. Outside it reads OCCUPIED or VACANT. Schlage's indicator is a 180 degree visibility design, so it can be read from down the corridor rather than only straight on.
3) How does the Entrance/Office function on the L9050 work day to day?
The outside lever is locked or unlocked by key outside or by the inside thumbturn. With the outside locked, the latchbolt still retracts by key outside or by the inside lever, so egress is never blocked. Unlocked, either lever retracts the latch. An auxiliary latch deadlocks the latchbolt when the door closes. There is no deadbolt in this function.
4) Is the Schlage L9050 handed, and do I need to specify hand when I order?
Yes, it is a handed lock, so the door hand has to be specified. Determine hand from outside the door: which side the hinges are on and which way the door swings. Getting it wrong means the lever and indicator orientation are wrong for the opening.

7) I only need an occupied/vacant indicator on a restroom door, not a keyed lever lock. What can I use instead of the Schlage L9050?
The L9050 is a keyed single cylinder lever mortise lock that also carries indicators, so it is more lock than a simple restroom occupancy application needs. The Schlage L9050 is specified for a 1-3/4 inch door. For thinner doors, the Arrow E50 covers 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch and the Accentra D292 cylindrical deadbolt with thumbturn and indicator function covers the same 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch range at Grade 2. Both are deadbolt style products with indication, so plan separate latching trim if the opening needs a lever.
9) Which rose or escutcheon should I pick for the L9050 if my doors are not all 1-3/4 inch?
