1) What happens to the Schlage L9094EL when power is lost?
Power loss unlocks the outside lever. The L9094EL is the fail safe (EL) version, meaning the outside lever is held locked continuously by 12V or 24V DC and releases to free when the current drops. If you need the opening to stay secure on a power failure, you want the fail secure EU arrangement instead; Schlage builds the electrified L9000 locks with customer-selectable EL/EU, so the same lock body can be set either way. The inside lever is always free for immediate egress regardless of power.
2) Will the L9094EL mortise lock fit a 1-3/4 inch commercial door?
Yes, 1-3/4 inches is the standard door thickness for this lock. The mortise case measures 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inches, so the door needs a full mortise pocket cut to the L Series template. Other door thicknesses are available as options on the L Series, but the base configuration is 1-3/4 inch.
3) Do I need to order the L9094EL by hand, left or right?
No handing needs to be specified. The lock is field reversible, so one lock covers either hand of door and an installer can set it on site. That makes it practical to stock a single lock for a building with mixed door swings.
4) What does the RX option on this Schlage electrified mortise lock actually do for my access control system?
Request to exit gives the access control panel a signal the moment the inside lever is turned, so the system knows someone is leaving and can shunt the door contact instead of reading it as a forced door. The electrified L9000 locks also support DPS (door position switch), latchbolt monitor and deadbolt monitor if you want fuller status reporting back at the panel.
5) How much current does the L9094EL draw, and what power supply do I need?
Draw is 400mA, and the lock auto detects 12 or 24VDC, so you do not have to specify voltage when ordering. Size your supply and wire run for 400mA per lock at the voltage you are running, and remember a fail safe lock is energized continuously while locked, so that current is constant, not momentary.
6) Is a cylinder included with the L9094EL, or do I supply my own?
That is your choice at order time. The P option ships with a conventional 6-pin cylinder in the C keyway, which is the standard cylinder for this lock. The L option is less conventional cylinder, so you fit your own to match the building's existing keying, including an interchangeable core or a UL437 listed Primus 20-500 Series cylinder. Note that with interchangeable core cylinders the assembly is rated Grade 2 security rather than Grade 1.
7) Will the L9094EL latch into the strike already in my frame?
The latch is a 3/4 inch stainless steel unit with an anti-friction tongue, and the lock ships with a 10-072 box strike measuring 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inches with square corners and a 1-3/16 inch lip. If your frame is already prepped for an ANSI 4-7/8 inch strike, the supplied strike drops in. A frame cut for a different strike size or with a radius corner will need the prep corrected or a matching strike specified.
8) Can I use the L9094EL on a fire rated door?
Yes. The L9000 locks are UL listed for 3-hour fire doors, and UL/cUL listed for A label single doors up to 4 by 10 feet and pairs up to 8 by 10 feet. The letter F and the UL symbol on the latch front identify the listing. The electrified functions are UL19X listed for single-point locking applications. Two functions, L9076 and L9077, are excluded from the fire listing, but the 9094 is not one of them.
9) Is this lock ANSI Grade 1 and does it meet ADA?
Grade 1, tested and certified under ANSI/BHMA A156.13 for both security and operational, and heavy duty rated for high traffic openings. It meets ADA requirements, and all levers with a return to door of 1/2 inch or less comply with the California Referenced Standards Code. It also carries ANSI/ASTM F476-76 Grade 40 with UL listing, meets the Buy American Act, and holds Miami-Dade NOAs and Florida Building Commission listings, which matters on federally funded and Florida coastal projects.
10) What is the closest equivalent to the Schlage L9094EL if the access control panel supplies 24VDC only?
The Schlage L9094EL accepts 12 or 24VDC, so a 24VDC-only panel already suits it. 11) I need an electrified mortise lock but the opening does not need a cylinder on both sides. What should I use instead of the L9094EL?
The L9094EL is a double cylinder keyed function, meaning a cylinder on each side. For a single-keyed opening, the DynaLock EML-1 is an electrified mortise lock in storeroom function, and the Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH is a 24V motorized latch retraction mortise lock in storeroom function with electric unlock. Storeroom keeps the outside lever locked at all times with key access, rather than the L9094EL arrangement where either key or inside lever retracts the latchbolt.
12) What does the double cylinder function mean on the L9094EL, and where would I use it?
Double cylinder means there is a keyed cylinder on both sides of the door. Outside is locked electrically; the latchbolt retracts either by key or by turning the inside lever, and an auxiliary latch deadlocks the latchbolt when the door is closed. It suits an opening where you want key override from either face while still running the outside lever off the access control system, common on stairwells, mechanical rooms and secured corridors.
13) Can I match this electrified lock to the other Schlage levers and the exit devices already in my building?

17) Does a latch retraction mortise lock do the same job as the L9094EL?
Not the same job. The L9094EL is fail safe electric lever control: 12 or 24VDC keeps the outside lever locked, and the latchbolt is retracted only by key or by the inside lever. Motorized latch retraction products such as the SDC 7600 Series and the Command Access LPM110ECH and LPM190-M-EU-CH pull the latchbolt back electrically, which is what you want when the opening needs remote release or to be held in a free-entry state by the panel. Pick by whether the access control system is releasing the latch or unlocking the lever.

Yes.
