Schlage L9095EUP-06A-626-RX – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What happens to a Schlage L9095EU when the power drops or the fire alarm cuts control power?
Both levers unlock and either lever will retract the latchbolt. The L9095EU is the fail secure (EU) build of the electrically locking function: 12V or 24V DC holds both levers locked continuously, and a switch or power failure releases them. If you need the opposite behavior, where losing power leaves the levers locked, that is the EL version of the same lock case.
2) How much current does the Schlage L9095EU draw, and does it need a 12V or 24V supply?
It auto detects either, so a 12VDC or 24VDC supply both work with no jumper or part change. Budget 400mA per lock when you size the power supply and the door loop. On a multi-door job that number is what decides how many locks a single supply carries.
3) What does the RX option on an electrified mortise lock actually give the access control panel?
RX is request to exit: a signal sent when the inside lever is turned, so the panel knows an authorized egress happened and can shunt the door contact instead of throwing a forced door alarm. On the L9095EU it is built into the lock rather than added as a separate wall device or a REX motion sensor above the opening. DPS, latchbolt monitor and deadbolt monitor are the related monitoring options on the same electrified L Series platform.
4) Will a Schlage L9095EU mortise lock fit a 1-3/8 inch door?
Not as standard. The L9095EU is built for 1-3/4 inch doors, which is the usual commercial thickness. Thicker or thinner doors are handled through L Series door thickness options rather than by modifying the standard lock, so the thickness has to be called out at order time.
5) What size mortise pocket does the Schlage L9000 lock case need in the door edge?
The lock case measures 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inches, so the door has to be prepped for a standard L Series mortise pocket. If the opening already carries an L9000 series lock, the pocket and the through-bolt prep are the same and this is a drop-in case swap; the added work is running low voltage power to the hinge edge for an electrified function.
6) Will the Schlage L9095EU latch into the strike that is already in my frame?
It ships with a 10-072 strike, 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inches with square corners and a 1-3/16 inch lip, plus a box. The latch is a 3/4 inch stainless steel unit with an anti-friction tongue. If your frame has a square corner ANSI mortise strike cutout of those dimensions, the supplied strike drops straight in; if the frame is radius corner or a different lip length, order the strike variant to match rather than filing the frame.
7) Should I order the L9095EU with cylinders or less cylinder?
Depends on whether you are keying it yourself. The P option supplies conventional 6-pin cylinders in the C keyway. The L option is less conventional cylinder, which is what a locksmith or an integrator takes when the building runs a restricted or proprietary keyway and the cylinders come from the existing system. This is a double cylinder function, so key access from both sides means two cylinders per lock, not one.
8) Is the Schlage L9095EU fire rated, and can I use it on a 3 hour fire door?
UL listed for 3-hour fire doors, and UL/cUL listed for A label single doors up to 4 by 10 feet and pairs up to 8 by 10 feet. The letter F and the UL symbol stamped on the latch front are how an inspector confirms the listing on an installed lock. The electrified functions carry a UL19X listing for single-point locking, and the lock meets ADA requirements and the Buy American Act.
9) Is the Schlage L9095EU Grade 1, and does the cylinder choice change that?
Yes, tested and certified under ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1 for both security and operational, and it also carries ANSI/ASTM F476-76 Grade 40. One caveat for a spec-driven job: with interchangeable core cylinders the security rating drops to Grade 2, while a concealed shell cylinder keeps A156.13 Grade 1 on both counts. If the spec on the drawing says Grade 1 security, the cylinder type you order decides whether you meet it.
10) Is a motorized latch retraction mortise lock a substitute for an electrically unlocked mortise lock?
No - they do different things at the door. The Schlage L9095EU electrically locks both levers and unlocks them on switch or power failure, so the latchbolt stays projected and the lever retracts it. A motorized latch retraction lock such as the SDC 7600 Series, a Grade 1 motorized latch retraction mortise lockset with 24VDC control, or the Command Access LPM110ECH Series electrified latch retraction mortise lock chassis with 24VDC operation, pulls the latchbolt itself back electrically so the door can be pushed or pulled open with no trim operation at all. Choose latch retraction when access control or an automatic operator has to open the door without anyone touching the lever; choose electric unlock when the lever must still be turned.
11) What is the closest cross-brand equivalent to a Schlage L9095EU electrified mortise lock with request to exit?
The Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH is the nearest peer: a 24V motorized mortise lock with electric unlock and optional REX. Both are electric-unlock (fail secure) mortise locks with a request-to-exit signal available. The differences that matter for the opening are keying and voltage flexibility. The Schlage L9095EU is a double cylinder keyed function with a conventional 6-pin C keyway cylinder and auto-detects 12 or 24VDC at 400mA; the LPM190-M-EU-CH is a storeroom function and is specified at 24V. If the door is keyed both sides, the double cylinder function is the one to match; if only the outside is keyed, storeroom function covers it.
12) What electrified mortise lock should I use on a behavioral health or detention door instead of a double cylinder keyed lock?
The Command Access ML04EU is built for that opening - it is an institutional function electrified mortise lock chassis with an asylum/institution/utility function, which keys both sides with no free egress by lever. The Schlage L9095EU is a double cylinder keyed function that unlocks both levers on power failure and allows the lever to retract the latchbolt, which is the opposite behavior from what a secure institutional opening usually calls for. Schlage does offer ligature resistant trim for behavioral health applications on the L Series if the opening needs free egress with ligature resistant hardware.
13) Which electrified mortise locks are rated Grade 1 for a spec that requires it?
Both the Schlage L9095EU and the SDC 7600 Series motorized latch retraction mortise lockset are Grade 1. The L9000 is tested and certified under ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1 Security and Operational, is UL listed for 3-hour fire doors, and its electrified functions are UL19X listed for single-point locking applications; it also meets the Buy American Act and ADA requirements, which matters on federal and institutional work. Note that specifying the L9095EU with interchangeable core cylinders drops it to Grade 2 security, so keep the conventional or concealed shell cylinder if the spec calls for Grade 1 security.
14) What runs on 12 volts if my access control power supply is not 24VDC?
The Schlage L9095EU auto detects 12 or 24VDC and draws 400mA, so it drops onto either supply without changing the lock. Most of the electrified mortise peers are specified at 24V - the SDC 7600 Series is a 24VDC control lockset and the Command Access LPM110ECH and LPM190-M-EU-CH are 24V products. If the panel or supply at the door is 12VDC, the dual-voltage detection on the L9095EU is what removes the extra step.
15) Do I have to order the Schlage L9095EU handed for a left or right hand door?
No. It is field reversible, so one lock covers either hand and the handing is set during install. That matters if you are stocking spares for a building with mixed openings, since one part number covers both.
16) Will the levers on this Schlage electrified mortise lock match the exit devices and other locks in my building?
All L Series levers suite with Von Duprin exit devices and with the related L Series products LE, LM9200, LM9300 and LT. For a property manager standardizing a building, that means the lever on an electrified opening can be the same design as the lever on the exit device down the hall. Eight lever designs are offered here, 01, 02, 03, 05, 06, 07, 17 and Omega, all on the A wrought rose in 626 satin chrome.
17) Electrified mortise lock or electric strike for a card reader opening?
An electrified mortise lock like the L9095EU controls the lever itself, so the door stays latched and fire rated while access is granted at the trim, and the mechanical key override still works from either side. An electric strike releases the frame side instead and needs frame modification. Where the L9095EU earns its place is on a fire rated opening where you also want request to exit signalling from the lock, since RX comes off the inside lever rather than from a sensor over the door.
18) I need an electrified mortise lock but the existing trim is a different brand. What are my options besides Schlage?
For a chassis-only approach, Command Access sells electrified mortise lock chassis meant to work behind existing trim: the ML1080LB is a heavy-duty storeroom function chassis, and the ML04EU is an institutional function chassis for asylum, institution and utility openings. The LPM190-M-EU-CH is a 24V motorized storeroom mortise lock with electric unlock and optional REX, which is the closest peer to an EU fail secure function with request to exit. The Schlage L9095EU is a complete lock, case, trim and levers together, so it is the choice when you are replacing the whole assembly rather than reusing trim.
19) Can I get a high security cylinder in the Schlage L9095EU for a facility that controls key duplication?
Yes. Specify a Primus 20-500 Series cylinder for a UL437 listed locking cylinder. That is the route for a healthcare, school or government facility that needs patent-protected key control rather than the standard conventional 6-pin C keyway cylinder. The security blocking hub also stops the lock being picked by pulling the levers off.
20) What is a simpler electrified mortise lock if I only need the outside keyed on a storeroom door?
A storeroom function electrified mortise lock covers that opening with one cylinder instead of two. The DynaLock EML-1 Series is an electrified mortise lock in storeroom function, and the Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH is a 24V motorized mortise lock with electric unlock in storeroom function. The Schlage L9095EU is a double cylinder keyed function, meaning a cylinder on both sides with the latchbolt retracted by either key - specify it when the inside face has to be keyed too, such as a door between two secured areas.
21) Which electrified mortise lock holds up best against abuse on a high traffic entry?
For openings where the lever gets forced, the SDC Selectric 7800 PRO Series is a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch, which lets the outside lever move freely when locked rather than transmitting force into the chassis. Schlage's answer on the L9095EU is the Vandlgard free-wheeling outside trim option, available on most L Series functions including electrified, along with a security blocking hub that prevents lock picking by removing levers. Both approaches let the outside lever spin under abuse; the L9095EU pairs it with a heavy duty Grade 1 chassis and a 3/4 inch stainless steel latch with anti-friction tongue.
22) Can I put a Command Access or SDC mortise lock chassis into a door already prepped for a Schlage L9000?
Several of the peers are sold as a chassis rather than a complete lockset - the Command Access ML1080LB heavy-duty storeroom function mortise lock chassis, the ML04EU institutional function chassis, and the LPM110ECH electrified latch retraction mortise lock chassis are all chassis products, which is how retrofit into an existing mortise pocket is normally handled. The Schlage L9095EU uses a 4-7/16 by 6-1/16 by 1 inch case for 1-3/4 inch doors with a 10-072 1-1/4 by 4-7/8 inch square corner strike, so confirm the existing pocket depth and strike prep against whichever chassis you are fitting before ordering.
23) Can staff see whether the door is locked without trying the lever, and is there a vandal resistant option?
Two L Series options cover that. The 180 degree visibility indicator shows lock status from either approach angle, and Vandlgard free-wheeling outside trim, which spins instead of breaking when someone forces the lever, is available on most functions including electrified ones. For behavioral health openings there is also Gold Standard ligature resistant trim. If vandal resistance is the driver and you want a peer, the SDC Selectric 7800 PRO Series is a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch.
24) Is the Schlage L9095EU approved for use in Florida high wind and hurricane zones?
The L Series carries Miami-Dade NOAs and Florida Building Commission listings. It also complies with the California Referenced Standards Code where the lever has a return to door of 1/2 inch (64 mm) or less. Those matter on institutional and multi-family work where the local authority checks the approval before the opening is signed off.
