1) What does the Schlage 09-454 trim pack actually include, and which L Series mortise locks does it fit?
The 09-454 is a replacement trim pack for Schlage L Series mortise locks, covering the L/LV9050, L/LV9056, L/LV9456, L9473, L/LV9480 and L/LV9485 functions. You order it by lever design, rose and finish, so it's what you buy when the lock body is fine and the lever or rose is worn, damaged or being restyled. It is not a lock body, so it won't help if the case itself has failed.
2) Will the Schlage 09-454 L Series trim work on my 1-3/4 inch door with a 2-3/4 inch backset?
That's exactly the opening it's built for. The 09-454 trim is specified for 1-3/4 inch door thickness and a 2-3/4 inch backset, which is the standard commercial mortise setup. Thicker doors need a different door-thickness option, so measure the leaf before ordering rather than assuming.
3) Do I have to specify handing when ordering a Schlage 09-454 lever trim pack?
For most of the lever designs, no. The 01, 02, 03, 05, 06, 07, 17, 18, LAT, M55 and M81 levers are ordered without handing. The 12 lever is the exception: it comes as a distinct left hand or right hand part, so for that design you need to know which way the door swings before you order.

No. The Schlage 09-454 is L Series lock trim - the lever, rose and escutcheon hardware that dresses an existing L/LV9050, L/LV9056, L/LV9456, L9473, L/LV9480 or L/LV9485 mortise lock. It is a replacement part, not a lock in itself, so it does not change or provide the locking function of the door. The Cal-Royal CALDOR238 CAL101 is a dormitory dead latch, a complete latching device with its own dormitory function. If the lock body in the door is sound and the levers or roses are worn, damaged or being changed to a different design, the 09-454 trim is the part that addresses it. If the opening needs a dormitory-function device installed, the Cal-Royal unit is that device and the Schlage trim pack will not do the job. The two are not interchangeable in either direction.
6) I need to match the trim on the rest of my building. What finishes does the Schlage 09-454 come in?
Twelve finishes, and they cover the usual facility standards: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 609 antique brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 629 bright stainless steel, 630 satin stainless steel, and 643E aged bronze. If you're standardizing a fleet of doors, 626 and 630 are the two most common commercial specs. 7) What's the difference between the A rose and the B rose on Schlage L Series trim?
Both are wrought roses, and they're the two rose options on the 09-454 trim pack. The rose is the round plate the lever passes through, so pick the one that matches the existing trim on your other openings or the plate already on the door. Note this is rose trim, not an escutcheon plate, so it won't cover a larger existing escutcheon cutout.
8) Is Schlage L Series trim suitable for a high-traffic commercial or institutional building?
