1) What does the Schlage 09-456 trim pack actually include, and which L Series locks does it fit?
The 09-456 is a Schlage L Series lever trim pack, meaning the outside/inside lever trim and rose hardware rather than the mortise lock case itself. It is built for the L/LV9050, L/LV9056, L/LV9456, L9473, L/LV9480 and L/LV9485 functions, on the egress side. If the mortise body in your door is one of those functions and the lever or rose is what failed, this is the replacement trim. If the lock case itself is bad, you need the lock, not the trim pack.
2) Will the Schlage 09-456 L Series trim work on a 1-3/8 inch door?
No. The 09-456 trim pack is specified for 1-3/4 inch doors, which is the standard commercial door thickness. For a thinner door you need the L Series ordered with the door thickness option that matches, since the L Series carries different door thickness options across the line. Don't try to make 1-3/4 trim work on a 1-3/8 door; the spindle and through-bolt lengths won't land right.
3) Do I have to specify handing when ordering a Schlage 09-456 trim pack?
Only for one lever design. The 12 Lever is ordered as a specific left hand or right hand part, so you have to know your door swing before you order it. The other designs (01, 02, 03, 05, 06, 07, 17, 18 and the Latitude LAT lever) are not split by hand in the ordering options. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your left it's left hand, hinges on the right is right hand.
4) I need the new lever trim to match the other Schlage doors in my building. What finishes and lever designs can I get on the 09-456?
Eleven finishes are on offer: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 609 antique brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 629 bright stainless and 630 satin stainless. Lever designs run 01, 02, 03, 05, 06, 07, 12 (handed), 17, 18 and Latitude. Match the two-digit lever number and the finish number stamped on or recorded for your existing L Series openings and the replacement will read as identical across the fleet. 626 satin chrome and 630 satin stainless are the usual commercial standards.
5) Can I use the Schlage 09-456 trim on a 3-hour fire rated door?
The Schlage L9000 mortise locks these trim packs serve are UL listed for 3-hour fire doors, with the exceptions of the L9076 and L9077 functions. The listing covers A label single doors up to 4 by 10 feet and pairs up to 8 by 10 feet, and the letter F with the UL symbol on the latch front is how you confirm a given lock is the listed one. Check the latch front on the lock already in your door before you rely on the rating.
6) Does Schlage L Series lever trim meet ADA and Grade 1 requirements for a school or healthcare facility?
The L Series meets ADA requirements and the L9000 mortise locks are tested and certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1 for both security and operational, exceeding Grade 1 across the series. For California work, all levers with a return to door of 1/2 inch (64 mm) or less comply with the California Referenced Standards Code. The line also meets the Buy American Act, which matters on federal and many state institutional jobs. Note that if the lock is fitted with interchangeable core cylinders the security rating is Grade 2; a concealed shell cylinder keeps it at A156.13 Grade 1 operational and security.
7) Can a Cal-Royal CALDOR238 dormitory dead latch be used in place of the Schlage 09-456 trim pack?
No - they are two different classes of hardware. The Schlage 09-456 is L Series lock trim, the lever, rose and related trim parts that dress an already installed mortise lock body in the L/LV9050, L/LV9056, L/LV9456, L9473, L/LV9480 and L/LV9485 egress functions, and it is sold as a replacement part rather than a complete lock. The Cal-Royal CALDOR238 CAL101 is a dormitory function dead latch, a working latch unit in its own right. If the mortise case in the door is sound and only the levers and roses are worn or wrong, the 09-456 trim is the part that addresses it; if the latching mechanism itself is being replaced, trim alone will not do the job.
8) What is the difference between the A rose and the B rose on the Schlage 09-456 trim?
Both A and B are wrought roses, so this trim pack is a rose-trim part, not an escutcheon plate. The choice is the rose design, and it has to match what is already mounted on your other L Series doors or the replacement will look off next to them. Note the L Series line as a whole spans five rose designs and three escutcheon designs; the 09-456 pack itself is offered with the A and B wrought roses only, so if your opening uses an escutcheon this is not the trim for it.
9) Will Schlage L Series levers match my Von Duprin exit devices in the same corridor?
They do suite. All L Series levers suite with Von Duprin exit devices, and with the related L Series products LE, LM9200, LM9300 and LT. So a corridor running Von Duprin exit hardware on the fire doors and L Series mortise locks on the offices can carry one lever design and one finish end to end. Pick the same two-digit lever number for both and the corridor reads as one specification.
10) I need a dormitory function lock, not L Series trim. What else does ZenSupply carry?

Residential interior doors are usually thinner and bored for tubular locks, so this trim has nothing to mount to on that kind of opening. Multi-family corridor and unit entry doors built to commercial spec are a different story and are exactly where this belongs.
12) Are there exposed screws on the inside lever of Schlage L Series trim?
No. A locking lever bushing holds the inside lever, which eliminates exposed screws on inside levers. There is also a security blocking hub in the lock that prevents picking the lock by pulling the levers off. On a behavioral health or high-abuse opening that clean face matters, and Schlage offers a separate ligature resistant trim line for those applications rather than this standard rose trim.
